Paris city breaks bring La Ville Lumière (the city of lights) to your fingertips. Widely regarded as the hub of European fashion, the arts and of course culture. From its world famous neo classical architecture to some of the world’s most famous museums, it is the city to visit for romantic getaways and weekend breaks.
Le Marais is the hub of the gay community in Paris and can be reached by the Chatelet metro station. Historically it is the aristocratic district of Paris and it forms part of both the 3rd and 4th arrondissement in the city. Architecturally, the district is magnificent and is home to attractions including the Carnavalet Museum and the Place des Vosges, the oldest planned square in the city.
There are number of must see attractions in the city, alongside a few that are off the beaten track.
Culture and romance oozes from the city’s foundations, with classic architecture and art jumping out at every corner. Visit the Louvre, the Palais Garnier, the Grande Arche de la Fraternité or the Notre Dame de Paris to quench all your thirst for sightseeing and get to grips with centuries of European history.
There is so much more to Paris once you delve a little deeper and if sightseeing is not your thing, then certainly do not be put off.
If you’re looking to dine, Le Marais is full of gay friendly restaurants that epitomise chic and romance. Visit Des Gars Dans La Cuisine for fantastic French and Continental cuisine or Anthracite on rue de la Reynie for a trendy but traditional take of French fresh market produce and elegant homemade foie gras.
Looking to go for a drink? Raiid bar blends cosy, comfortable lounge atmosphere with some of the best looking bartenders in the city. If you’re looking for romantic, avoid the crowds upstairs and head straight into the bar downstairs.
Girls, head to La Champmeslé for an inviting French and international crowd in a warm, relaxing atmosphere. The bar was one of the first lesbian bars to open in the area.
Perhaps pamper yourself. Romantic spa treatments are available at Carita, including facials, mud wraps and luxurious massage treatments.
Staying the night? The world famous George V offers style, service and luxury alongside an incredible marble decor and almost regal atmosphere. If this is a little out of your price range, look at the Chateau d’Esclimont; an old French castle just outside of Paris that’s been converted into wonderful hotel, offering fine cuisine. Alternatively, if you’d rather stay in Le Marais, look for the Hotel Pavillon de la Reine or the Hotel Villa Mazarin for cosy, gay friendly accommodation.
Whatever your style, be sure to visit Le Marais for chic, romantic and full-filled break.
