LGBT Advice & Support

The UK is home to numerous LGBT support groups where you can meet with a wide range of people who provide advice, share stories, provide counselling, and generally perform as friends and mentors. Whether you are looking to solve a problem or just want somebody to talk to, these are some excellent places to find what you need.

Alzheimer’s Society LGBT Support Group

Advice and into for carers of LGBT people with dementia.


Equalities and Human Rights Commission

Loads of info and also provides a helpline for England, Scotland and Wales.


Equality Network

The Equality Network is one of the largest activist groups LGBT equality and human rights in Scotland. Lots of info on your rights, with an email bulletin and link directory available.


Foreign and Commonwealth Office

Provides advice for LGBT travellers abroad about what sort of attitudes various countries have towards LGBT people.


LGBT Advice

Prefer an online space to talk instead? LGBT Advice is a volunteer-run Tumblr that's open for questions about all sorts of topics.

Loads of great resources here and phone numbers for someone to talk to.


LGBT Health and Wellbeing

A unique organisation working to improve the health and equality of LGBT people in Scotland. We offer a range of holistic services including counselling, social activities, information events, befriending, courses and community groups. We also run the LGBT Helpline Scotland, available Tuesdays and Wednesdays (12-9pm) on 0300 123 2523.


LGBT Youth Scotland

Scotland’s largest community-based lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) organisation geared especially for younger people. Great advice about coming out, bullying, forming gender identity, and more. Centres around Scotland host a variety of regular meetings and space for work-based sensitivity training.



Surrey-based charity offering confidential, non-judgmental support, advice, guidance and information over the telephone and online.



Free support for parents, friends, and family of LGBT people. Many links with general information about LGBT with specialised information on coming out, legal rights, and more.


Suzy Lamplugh Trust

Provides good advice on staying safe on the street, as well as links to organisations that provide help if you feel unsafe.


Transgender Zone

Provides help and support for transgender people, including a help directory and online forums.


UK Lesbian and Gay Information Group

Charity promoting equality and dignity for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people who seek asylum in the UK, or who wish to immigrate here to be with their same-sex partner.  Provides advice for LGBT asylum seekers.
